Quality Assurance (QA) Engineer – Onsite (New York City, NY)

KeenLogic is seeking a QA Engineer to work alongside DOE integration teams, ensuring network design, installation, and documentation meet defined standards. The QA Engineer will work with the integration vendor to ensure adherence to DIIT network server standards during the engineering and implementation phases. Responsibilities include resolving technical issues, tracking processes, verifying documentation accuracy, and ensuring the final network design aligns with specifications. The role involves reviewing installations, addressing errors, and confirming successful Internet connectivity before sign-off, which is required for vendor invoice submission. Design review and implementation of network devices and connectivity to our schools and DOE enterprise network.

This is a full-time position offering Fortune 500-level health/dental/vision, PTO, 401k, and Life Insurance.

Work Schedule: 35 hours per week. When feasible, work will be performed during administrative business hours (7:00 AM to 5:00 PM). However, site integrations typically take place after school hours from 2:30 PM onwards, and the candidate will be required to provide after-hours technical support.

Equipment: Candidates must bring their own laptop and cellphone. DOE does not provide equipment.

Background and Purpose:

The DOE serves over 900,000 students annually, enabling educational success through technology, hardware, software, and telecommunications. The Division of Instructional and Information Technology (DIIT) is dedicated to supporting equity and excellence with minimal disruptions, ensuring that staff and students have access to the technology and resources necessary for high-quality education.

The CCU Project aims to enhance network infrastructure to create dynamic and engaging learning environments. As education evolves with online, remote, and blended learning, the demand for network upgrades increases. Initiatives like computer-based testing, the rise in mobile devices, and the one-to-one student-computer ratio require a robust infrastructure to support them.

Technological tools such as virtual classrooms, online learning platforms, and parent engagement apps are essential to achieving the Chancellor’s goals of Equity and Excellence, ensuring all students, parents, and teachers have equal access to education.

Required Qualifications:

  • 7+ years supporting network operations (routing, switching, firewalls, wireless, and network tech).
  • 7+ years hands-on with Cisco switches (6xxx, 5xxx, 4xxx, 29xx, 19xx), routers (2951, 4xxx), firewalls (5555, 5516), and Cisco/Aruba wireless controllers.
  • 7+ years hands-on with Cisco switches (C9K, 68XX, 4XXX, 29XX), routers (C8XXX, ISR 29XX, ISR 4XXX), firewalls (ASA 55XX, Firepower), and cloud-based device management.
  • 4+ years working with large LAN/WAN infrastructure, communication protocols, and Cisco equipment.
  • 3+ years configuring routing, switching, firewalls, and Wireless Access Management (WAM).
  • 3+ years providing Level I, II, and III network support, especially WAM and LAN troubleshooting.
  • 2+ years preparing detailed network configuration and status reports.
  • 2+ years creating network diagrams and schematics using Visio.
  • Highly detailed and process-oriented, with a strong ability to identify and resolve issues efficiently.

Job Duties:

  • Design Review & Implementation: Review and implement network devices and connectivity for schools and DOE’s enterprise network.
  • Engineering Support: Provide engineering support for network integrations, including reviewing proposed work plans throughout the infrastructure deployment process to ensure alignment with DIIT network standards.
  • Validation of Work: Validate completed work by the integrator, ensuring that the installation and documentation are correct and that services are fully implemented.
  • As-Built Review: Review current school networks’ As-Built designs in the NICE database and share them with integrators for upcoming integrations.
  • Compliance Monitoring: Review final As-Built designs submitted by integrators to ensure they meet DIIT’s networking and integration standards.
  • Troubleshooting: Use diagnostic methods to identify and resolve network malfunctions, offering remote support for network-related issues arising from deployment activities.
  • Integration Refresh: Work with the integrator on school infrastructure refresh projects, reviewing and approving work plan submissions for hardware and software installations.
  • Real-Time Support: Provide real-time support to integrators during equipment installations at schools, assisting with troubleshooting wireless and network environment issues.
  • Quality Assurance: Ensure consistent quality by developing and enforcing good, automated tools (e.g., DIIT Configuration Developer, NICE, Enterprise Management System metrics) and validating processes and documentation.
  • As-Built Approvals: Review and approve pre- and final As-Built documentation for work being implemented by the integrator.
